Finn Iunkers “Ifigeneia” is based on Euripides’ tragedy “Iphigeneia in Aulis”, but bears few similarities other than the storyline. Finn Iunkers text is closer to an oddball comedy than a greek tragedy. King Agamemnon has set out with his entire fleet to rescue beautiful Helena from the Trojans. When the king’s fleet becomes port-locked in Aulis due to weather, he learns that the only way he can please the weather gods is by sacrificing Ifigeneia, his only daughter. Seldom has a tragedy been so funny!
